As we age, our environment becomes increasingly more important and can seriously impact our ability to perform the normal activities that are part of daily living. It becomes harder to adapt to less than optimum conditions. Because the greatest fear of getting older is the loss of independence, appropriate design of homes must go beyond the traditional expectations of shelter and protection. It is essential to maximize the health, wellness and abilities of older adults with a pro-active design approach.

The Center of Design for an Aging Society is identifying environmental solutions which will help us to maximize our abilities, and allow us to live and act as young as we still feel.
